How It Works
The Bluelab pH Pen is equipped with a specialised probe that simultaneously measures the pH and temperature of your liquid solution. To get accurate readings, simply dip the meter into your nutrient solution and power it on. After a brief settling period, the pH and temperature will be displayed on the LCD readout. Once the reading is taken, it locks on the screen until you press another button, allowing you to remove the meter from the solution and comfortably read the data.
Temperature fluctuations can affect the accuracy of pH readings. However, the Bluelab pH Pen's onboard computer compensates for temperature differences, ensuring your pH measurements remain reliable and representative of your nutrient solution's true state.
Using the Bluelab pH Pen
To utilise the Bluelab pH Pen effectively, follow these steps:
- Prior to the first use, soak the pH Pen in a potassium chloride (KCL) solution for 24 hours, followed by calibration. If you plan to use it daily, recalibrate weekly.
- Calibration fluids (pH Buffer 4 and pH Buffer 7) are available for this purpose.
- To calibrate, remove the protective end-cap, wet the probe with clean water, and dip it into calibration fluid. Hold the calibration button to initiate automatic calibration.
- After calibration, the pH Pen is ready for use.
- To switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units, use the 'units' button located beneath the 'calibration' button.
- Always rinse the probe with clean water before use, and shake off excess moisture. Dip the probe into the nutrient solution and wait for the meter to beep, indicating a pH reading has been taken.
- Correct the pH of your nutrient solution as needed using pH Up or pH Down adjustment fluids before retesting.
- Power off the meter by holding the on-off button for 3 seconds.
- Rinse the probe with water and shake off excess moisture before replacing the end-cap after use.
Important Note:
Exercise caution when handling and storing pH adjustment fluids, as they are highly caustic.
