🎙️2️⃣  Session 02 — Omega Focus — The April 2026 Growers Forum

The second session of The Growers Forum continued the conversation around pricing pressure, retailer margins, and the wider challenges currently affecting the hydroponics retail market.

This session focused on Omega Lighting, with retailers openly discussing how pricing behaviour, positioning, and visibility are impacting the market across lighting products.

 


What Was Discussed

As the creators of the Omega Lighting brand, we felt it was important to openly address the current realities surrounding pricing and market activity.

The discussion focused on several key areas:

  • RRP vs real market pricing
  • Why undercutting happens
  • The impact inconsistent pricing has on retailers
  • What realistic improvement could look like moving forward

When retailers, distributors, and brands work together responsibly, the whole industry benefits.

A large part of the conversation centred around visibility. Many retailers shared similar concerns around aggressive pricing online and the challenges this creates when trying to maintain healthy margins in-store.

The session explored how clearer pricing structures, stronger communication, and more responsible market behaviour could help create a more stable environment for both retailers and brands.

Rather than focusing on short-term reactions, the discussion looked at what practical and sustainable improvements may realistically be achievable over time.

 


Open and Honest Feedback

One of the most valuable parts of the session was the openness of the discussion.

Retailers contributed honest feedback around current trading conditions, customer expectations, and the pressures stores are continuing to face across the market.

The conversation remained constructive throughout, with participants sharing ideas and perspectives on how the industry can move towards healthier pricing behaviour without losing competitiveness.
