Cris's Autumn Grow-Room Checklist. "Every year it's the same turning point. The clocks go back, the temperature drops, and your customers switch from keeping rooms cool to keeping them warm. It's one of the most reliable shifts in buying habits you'll see, and the shops that plan for it make the most of it. Here's what I'd be talking to growers about this autumn:"
- Seal it up – draughts, worn zips and light leaks cost money once the cold sets in; foil tape and light-proofing are easy add-ons at the counter.
- Bring the heat – when nights turn cold, growers come looking for heating, so stock radiators, greenhouse heaters and tube heaters before the first cold snap (full range on pages 8 and 9).

- Protect the root zone – cold roots stall a grow faster than almost anything, so heat mats and insulation are an easy sell once you explain why.
